Navigating the Gallery Scene: A Workshop for Emerging Artists

Join us for an engaging workshop designed to empower emerging artists with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex world of art galleries. Led by 11:11's Director and Curator, Erin, this interactive session will provide participants with practical insights and strategies for successfully showcasing their artwork in galleries.

During the workshop, attendees will learn:

  1. Understanding the Gallery Landscape: Gain a comprehensive understanding of different types of galleries, their missions, and the expectations they have for artists.
  2. Crafting Your Art Portfolio: Learn how to curate and present a professional portfolio that effectively showcases your artwork and artistic vision.
  3. Approaching Galleries: Explore effective techniques for reaching out to galleries, crafting compelling artist statements, and developing relationships with gallery owners and curators.
  4. Art Pricing and Contracts: Receive guidance on pricing your artwork appropriately and negotiating contracts with galleries to ensure fair representation.
  5. Marketing and Promotion: Discover strategies for effectively promoting your artwork through various channels, including social media, exhibitions, and artist residencies.

This workshops is led by Erin Stone

ERIN STONE is an arts administrator, curator and creative marketing specialist born and raised in Los Angeles and based out of Central Oregon. She is the Co-Founder and Director of 11:11 Projects, a mission-driven organization dedicated to empowering communities through advocacy, public art production, and justice-centered programming.

She started her career teaching high-school, working with at-risk teens in special education. Erin received a degree in photography and visual communications and completed the Executive Program in Arts & Culture Strategy at University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy & Practice. She has been recognized locally and nationally for her photographic work and has over 15 years of experience in grassroots activism, event production, art curation, youth mentorship, and community development through the arts. 

With a passion for culture, representation and story-telling, Erin's curatorial work has been published in The New Yorker, Artillery Magazine, Hyperallergic, LA Times and featured on Spectrum News and NPR.  Erin has received numerous civic awards of recognition for her work with 11:11 Projects and was named an Impact-Maker to Watch by City Impact Labs.  She gratefully sits on the board of directors of the Los Angeles Diversity Film Festival, which is dedicated to representing and celebrating the diversity within the independent film community. Erin is a photographer, mental health advocate, plant enthusiast, and along with her pit bull mix, Ash, an avid wanderer and traveler.
