About the event
This workshop is designed to introduce artists across disciplines to the nuts and bolts of community engagement in the creative sector. Artists will hear about select strategies and insights for community engagement from the field. Artists will also learn the first steps toward building out a community engagement strategy that aligns with their own project needs. This workshop includes a 30-minute Q&A.
Led by Davida Persaud
Davida Persaud received her Ph.D. in Culture and Performance from the World Arts and Cultures/Dance Department at UCLA where her research focused on community-based methodologies in the arts. She has over ten years of program experience in public art and K-12 arts education in Los Angeles where she has cultivated partnerships with local organizations, school districts, and municipalities. Davida previously held positions at the Skirball Cultural Center and the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC). She is currently a Lecturer in the World Arts and Cultures/Dance Department and Visual and Performing Arts Education (VAPAE) Program at UCLA. Davida is also the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of MuralColors, a company that provides artists and communities across the nation with products and services for the production, preservation, and maintenance of murals.
